Banda, a member of the scientific and professional cadre of senior executives, is Senior Scientist for Control Theory, Air Vehicles Directorate, Air Force Research Laboratory, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. He performs and directs research, and development activities at the Center of Excellence in Control Science. His primary responsibility is the transition of basic research results from control theory to the aerospace industry. He is focusing his research efforts on autonomous and cooperative control of multiple unmanned air vehicles, guidance and control of transatmospheric vehicles, and aerodynamic flow control and formation control of microsatellite clusters. In addition to his flight controls efforts, he collaborates on numerous interdisciplinary research problems with several AFRL directorates.
Dr. Banda joined the Flight Dynamics Laboratory in 1981 as an aerospace research engineer in the Flight Controls Division. His technical activities at the AFRL and its predecessors have had many facets. He has held the positions of in-house researcher, task team leader, group leader, program manager, branch chief, consultant, mentor and technical leader for basic research in flight control systems. He has made pioneering and lasting contributions to the areas of robust multivariable control theory dealing with uncertainties, on-line system identification and reconfigurable flight control.
