Edward C. Koenig III, a member of the Senior Executive Service, is Deputy Director for Supply, Directorate of Logistics and Sustainment, Headquarters Air Force Materiel Command, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. In his capacity, he is responsible for the Materiel Support Division of the Supply Management Activity Group, a stock fund with annual sales of $7 billion. He directs a wide range of logistics services in support of Air Force managed spare parts, to include transformation programs, requirements determination, budgeting, acquisition, provisioning, cataloging, distribution and data management policy. He also provides supply chain management policy, guidance and direction in support of headquarters, air logistics centers, U.S. Air Force and field activities worldwide customers.
Mr. Koenig began his Air Force career as an electronics engineer supporting the F-15 air superiority fighter at Warner Robins Air Logistics Center, Robins AFB, Ga., in 1979. He was promoted to the Directorate of Maintenance in 1982 to serve as unit Chief of Production Process Engineering within the Airborne Electronics Division. He was promoted to Chief of the Quality Reliability and Engineering Branch in 1988 and subsequently served in this position with the Systems Test and Support Branch within the Technology and Industrial Support Directorate. In 1992, he became Chief of the Maintenance Directorate's Manufacturing Division where he was responsible for yearly production of more than 150,000 precision components to support the requirements of F-15, C-130, C-141 and other aircraft.
In 1994, Mr. Koenig was selected for career broadening and assigned to Headquarters U.S. Air Force as a logistics management specialist for depot policy issues. He was promoted to senior analyst of the Air Force Maintenance Management Division in 1996 and attended the Industrial College of the Armed Forces in 1997. Mr. Koenig entered the Senior Executive Service in 1999. From 1999 to 2003, he served in several Senior Executive Service positions responsible for Air Force logistics resources and financial management of the Air Force Working Capital Fund. He assumed his current position in May 2003.
