Rear Admiral Dan W. Davenport:

Position: Deputy Director of the Navy Quadrennial Defense Review
After earning a masterís degree in Operations Analysis from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, he returned to sea as Combat Systems Officer and, later, Chief Engineer in USS Spruance (DD-963), in Mayport, Fla. During this tour, Spruance conducted deployments to the Indian Ocean, Mediterranean Sea and Baltic Sea, and participated in Operation Desert Shield. He next completed a joint duty tour in the Mobility Analysis Division at the U.S. Transportation Command.
During his tour as Executive Officer, USS Ticonderoga (CG-47) participated in the Joint Air Defense Operation/Joint Engagement Zone (JADO/JEZ) Near Land test, earned its first Battle E and won the Arleigh Burke Trophy. Following a tour at the Atlantic Fleet Headquarters as Executive Assistant to the Deputy Commander in Chief, he assumed command of USS Ramage (DDG-61) in February 1997 in Haifa, Israel. While on this maiden deployment, Ramage earned the Meritorious Unit Citation and Armed Forces Service Medal for participating in Operation Silver Wake, the evacuation of U.S. citizens from Albania. Ramage also participated in the historic sailing of USS Constitution and won the Battle E during this tour.
After serving on the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations, first as Head of the Air Dominance Integrated Warfare Architecture (IWAR) in the Assessment Division (N81), and later as Executive Assistant to the DCNO for Resources, Requirements and Assessments (N8), Rear Adm. Davenport assumed command of Destroyer Squadron Fifteen in Yokosuka, Japan, in January 2001. As part of the Kitty Hawk Battle Group, Desron 15 conducted two deployments under his command, one in the western Pacific and the second in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Rear Adm. Davenport served as Executive Assistant to the Chief of Naval Operations before assuming his current position as Deputy Director of the Navy Quadrennial Defense Review.
Rear Adm. Davenport has been awarded the Legion of Merit (three awards), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), the Navy Commendation Medal, the Navy Achievement Medal (two awards) and various service medals and unit awards.
