Rear Admiral David A. Gove:

Position: Commander, Submarine Group Seven Commander, Task Force Seven Four Commander, Task Force Five Four
Rear Admiral Gove assumed command of Submarine Group Seven, Commander Task Force Seven Four, and Commander Task Force Five Four in June 2004. His responsibilities include operational command of U.S. submarine operations in the western Pacific and Middle East as well as Theater ASW Commander for Seventh Fleet.
Originally from Newport, R.I., Rear Adm. Gove received his commission from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1975 (Operations Analysis). In 1996, he earned his Master of Science degree in Engineering Management from Catholic University of America and completed Harvard Business School's Advanced Management Program (AMP151).
At sea, Rear Adm. Gove served aboard both ballistic missile and attack submarines before commanding USS Louisville (SSN 724) from 1991 until 1994. During this tour, his crew earned the 1992 Battle Efficiency "E", the Joint Meritorious Unit Award, and the Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation. From 1997 until 1999, Rear Adm. Gove served as Commander, Submarine Development Squadron 12 in Groton, Conn., with responsibility for operational command of seven attack submarines, analysis of real-world operations, and overall Submarine Force tactical development.
Shore assignments included an exchange tour with the Royal Navy's Submarine Tactics and Weapons Group in Faslane, Scotland, and the Nuclear/Submarine Officer Program Manager at the Bureau of Naval Personnel. Post command, he was assigned to OPNAV as Executive Assistant to the Director, Submarine Warfare Division (N87) then as Special Assistant (Legislative Matters) to the Chief of Naval Personnel.
After Major Command, Rear Adm. Gove served as a CNO Fellow on Strategic Studies Group XIX in Newport, R.I., followed by assignment as Executive Assistant to the Chief of Naval Operations from 2000-2002. He was then assigned to the Joint Staff (J3), as Deputy Director for Global Operations from 2002-2004, responsible for oversight and coordination of worldwide operational matters including Joint Force Readiness, Strategic Operations, Reconnaissance Operations, management of the National Military Command System, and Anti-terrorism/Force Protection.
Rear Adm. Gove's personal awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit (5 awards), Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (3 awards), Navy Achievement Medal (3 awards), in addition to various unit awards earned by his crews.
