Rear Admiral Gary A. Engle:

Rear Admiral Engle is a native of Painesville, Ohio. He is a 1978 graduate of Cleveland State University (Civil Engineering), a 1983 graduate of the University of Michiganís Graduate School (Civil Engineering), and a graduate of Carnegie Mellonís Advanced Management Program.
He was commissioned an Ensign in the Civil Engineer Corps in May 1978 prior to Officer Indoctrination School in Newport, R.I. He served as Assistant Resident Officer in Charge of Construction at Point Mugu and Port Hueneme, Calif., followed by his tour of duty in Naval Mobile Construction Battalion Four. He then reported to Public Works Center, Guam, as the Production Engineering Department Head. Rear Admiral Engle was awarded the 1984 Naval Facilities Engineering Command "Pacific Engineer of the Year." At Naval Construction Battalions, U.S. Pacific Fleet in Hawaii, he served in the Operations Department as Officer in Charge of Seabee Camps in the Pacific. He also coordinated South Pacific Seabee operations in such locations as Vanuatu, Tonga, Fiji, Corrigedor, Bangladesh, and Kiribati.
Other tours include the Bureau of Naval Personnel as the Civil Engineer Corps Community Manager, Naval Station Everett, Wash., as the first Public Works Officer during construction of the Navy's newest Carrier Battle Group base, and Commanding Officer of Naval Mobile Construction Battalion One Thirty Three, where his Seabees were first in theater in Operation Joint Endeavor in Croatia and Bosnia/Herzegovina. They were selected for the 1996 Best of Type Battle "E", the 1996 Peltier award, a 1996 Navy Unit Commendation, an Army Superior Unit Citation, the 1995 Atlantic Fleet Pistol Marksmanship award, the 1997 U.S. Atlantic Fleet Golden Anchor Award, and runner-up honors for the 1995 and 1996 Golden Anchor Awards. Rear Adm. Engle then served as Head, Seabee Programs Branch on the Chief of Naval Operations (N446) staff, where he was awarded the prestigious 1997 Rear Admiral Lewis B. Combs Leadership Award for outstanding contributions in perpetuating the legacy of the Seabees and the Civil Engineer Corps.
Follow-on tours included: Operations Officer and Vice Commander of Atlantic Division, Naval Facilities Engineering Command; Commander, Southwest Division, Naval Facilities Engineering Command; and Chief of Staff for the First Naval Construction Division. Rear Adm. Engle assumed command of Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Pacific (NAVFAC Pacific) on September 26, 2003. He was promoted to Rear Admiral (Lower Half) on January 1, 2004.
Rear Adm. Engle is a registered Professional Civil Engineer in Ohio, and a member of Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity, the Chi Epsilon Civil Engineering National Honor Society, and the Society of American Military Engineers. He is a Seabee Combat Warfare Officer and a member of the Navy's Acquisition Professional Community.
Decorations include the Legion of Merit (three awards), Meritorious Service Medal (five awards), the Navy Commendation Medal, the Navy Achievement Medal and various service and campaign awards.
