Rear Admiral Peter H. Daly, U. S. Navy, a native of Chicago, Ill., is a 1977 graduate of the College of the Holy Cross. He received his commission through the NROTC program at Holy Cross and, after initial Surface Warfare training, reported in USS Roark (FF 1053) in early 1978 serving there until 1981 as Gunnery Officer, Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer and Navigator.
Following his initial sea tour, Rear Adm. Daly attended the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif. After attaining his master's degree, and upon graduating from the Surface Warfare Officer School Department Head Course in 1983, Rear Adm. Daly reported as Engineer Officer in USS Stump (DD 978). In September 1985, he reported for duty as Executive Officer in USS Hercules (PHM 2) and, upon completion, was assigned as Flag Lieutenant and Aide to Commander, Naval Surface Force, U. S. Atlantic Fleet in 1987.
In 1988, Rear Adm. Daly attended Aegis Weapons System training en route to duty as Executive Officer in USS Yorktown (CG 48). Upon completion of his assignment in Yorktown, he reported in 1990 to the Surface Warfare Programs and Budget Division (OP-30) of the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations. From August 1991 to May 1993, Rear Adm. Daly served as Deputy Executive Assistant to the Vice Chief of Naval Operations. He reported for duty as Commanding Officer, Precommissioning Unit Russell in March 1994.
Rear Adm. Daly commanded USS Russell (DDG 59) from her commissioning in May 1995 through October 1996. This period included a deployment to the Arabian Gulf where Russell performed Battle Group operations and Maritime Intercept Operations, enforcing U. N. sanctions against Iraq. Russell also conducted Tomahawk strikes during Operation Desert Strike in September 1996. In November 1996, he reported to the Force Structure, Resources, and Assessment Directorate (J-8), The Joint Staff, where he served as a program analyst and later, as Executive Assistant. Rear Adm. Daly commanded Destroyer Squadron Thirty-One from April 1999 - December 2000.. During this tour he deployed to the Arabian Gulf as Sea Combat Commander for the Abraham Lincoln Battle Group.
From December 2000 to July 2002, he completed tours as Executive Assistant to the Commander of the Pacific Fleet and, later, as Executive Assistant to the Commander of the U.S. Pacific Command. From August 2002 to August 2004, Rear Adm. Daly served as Deputy Director for Resources and Acquisition (J-8) in The Joint Staff. He then served as Senior Military Assistant to the Secretary of the Navy until January 2005. In February 2005, Rear Adm. Daly reported as Commander, Carrier Strike Group Eleven.
Rear Adm. Daly holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and a Master of Science in Operations Analysis.
