Rear Admiral Richard W. Hunt:

Rear Admiral Richard W. Hunt graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science in Bacteriology. He was commissioned an Ensign in February 1976 through the Officer Candidate School program in Newport, R.I. Rear Adm. Hunt attended Naval Post Graduate School, receiving a Master of Science in Telecommunications Systems Management in March 1988.
Rear Adm. Huntís sea duty assignments commenced onboard USS Sampson (DDG 10) as Gunnery Officer and later as Navigator. Subsequent sea duty tours include USS Underwood (FFG 36), commissioning Engineer Officer and USS Roark (FF 1053), Executive Officer. Rear Adm. Hunt served as Commanding Officer of USS Crommelin (FFG 37) from August 1993 to May 1995. During this tour, Crommelin deployed as part of the Kitty Hawk Battle Group in support of Korean Contingency operations.
Following his command tour, Rear Adm. Hunt served as Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations and Plans for Commander, Cruiser Destroyer Group Two, deploying twice to the Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf as the George Washington Battle Group. Rear Adm. Huntís most recent sea tour was as Commanding Officer of USS Philippine Sea (CG 58) from December 1999 to July 2001. During this tour he served as the Air Warfare Commander for the Enterprise Battle Group during their Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Sea deployment.
Shore assignments include Assistant Professor NROTC Unit, The Ohio State University and UHF Satellite Communications System Officer for the Command, Control, Communications, and Computer Systems Directorate (J-6), The Joint Staff. Rear Adm. Hunt served as Executive Assistant to Director, Surface Warfare (N86), to Deputy Chief of Staff of Naval Operations for Resources, Requirements and Assessments (N8), and to Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff. He is currently assigned as Deputy Director for Strategy and Policy for the Strategic Plans and Policy Directorate (J-5), The Joint Staff.
Personal decorations include the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, and various service medals and unit awards.
