Rear Admiral (Select) Mark S. Boensel:

Upon completion of initial S-3A training at VS-41, Rear Adm. (Sel.) Boensel reported to VS-29 where he made a Western Pacific/Indian Ocean deployment aboard USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63) and an around the world deployment aboard USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70). He then reported to VS-41 as a flight instructor. While there he served as the S-3A/B Weapon System Model Manager. Rear Adm. (Sel.) Boensel next reported to the staff of Commander Carrier Air Wing Ten where he served as the Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer and Administrative Officer. His next assignment was as a student at the United States Naval War College where he graduated from the College of Command and Staff in 1989.
Rear Adm. (Sel.) Boensel returned to the fleet as a squadron department head in VS-37, holding the billets of Training Officer, Operations Officer, and Maintenance Officer. During this tour, he deployed to the Indian Ocean and Arabian Gulf aboard USS Independence (CV-62) and participated in Operation Desert Shield. He next reported to Washington, D.C., where he served as Special Assistant for Aviation to the Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Installations and Environment).
In 1994, Rear Adm. (Sel.) Boensel reported as Executive Officer of VS-37; there he deployed to the western Pacific aboard Kitty Hawk and subsequently disestablished the squadron. Rear Adm. (Sel.) Boensel assumed command of VS-29 in July 1995 and completed an Arabian Gulf deployment aboard USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) and pre-deployment training aboard Kitty Hawk before relinquishing command of the squadron in October 1996.
His next assignment returned Rear Adm. (Sel.) Boensel to Washington, D.C., this time to the Office of the Secretary of Defense to serve as Military Assistant to the Secretary of Defense. With a change of Secretary of Defense in January 1997, Rear Adm. (Sel.) Boensel reported to the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy where he served as Military Assistant to the Under Secretary of Defense until May 1999.
From June 1999 until January 2001, he served on the staff of Commander, Naval Air Force, United States Pacific Fleet as the Executive Assistant to the Commander. Rear Adm. (Sel.) Boensel assumed command of Naval Air Station Jacksonville in April 2001. During that tour he was selected for promotion to the rank of Rear Admiral. In July 2004 Rear Adm. (Sel.) Boensel returned to Washington, D.C., becoming the director of the Chief of Naval Operations Environmental Readiness Division (N45).
Rear Adm. (Sel.) Boensel holds post-graduate degrees in Business Administration, International Relations, and National Security and Strategic Studies. His personal awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion Of Merit Medal (two awards), the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two awards) and the Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards). He has accumulated over 3,200 flight hours and over 600 carrier arrested landings.
