Rear Admiral Thomas L. Andrews, III:

Rear Admiral Tom Andrews is a native of Norfolk, Va., and, as the son of a 32-year Naval Aviator and World War II veteran, was raised in the nomadic style typical of the career Naval officer of that era. Rear Adm. Andrews was commissioned through the Naval ROTC program at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Va., in 1977.
After completing the Navy Supply Corps School in Athens, Ga., he reported to USS Roanoke (AOR-7) where he served as Disbursing and Retail Sales Officer, then Food Service Officer through two WESTPAC deployments, including four months in the Indian Ocean during the Iranian Hostage Conflict. From 1980 until 1982, Rear Adm. Andrews was assigned as a Contracting Officer at DLA, DPSC, Defense Subsistence Region Pacific in Alameda, Calif., where he was responsible for procurement of all Brand Name Subsistence for commissaries in the western United States and the Pacific Theater.
He affiliated with the Naval Reserve immediately following active duty in 1982. His early Reserve assignments included tours with FISC Oakland, DCASMA San Bruno, and Special Boat Unit Eleven. While Supply Officer of Special Boat Unit Eleven, he was recalled to active duty for Operation Desert Storm as the Assistant Logistics Officer for the Oaknoll Naval Hospital in Oakland, Calif. His more recent Reserve assignments included command of Cargo Handling Battalion 3, MTMC B320, DLA DCST DOT San Joaquin and AIRPAC Supply 0294. He was promoted to the rank of Rear Admiral (Lower Half) in August 2002, and now holds the positions of Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics, Supply and Ordnance, COMPACFLT; Commander, Logistics Task Force Pacific; and Commander, Naval Logistics Forces Korea.
Rear Adm. Andrews has been awarded the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (2 awards), the Joint Services Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation and Achievement medals, and various other individual and unit awards and commendations during his 25 years of Naval service.
In his civilian career, Rear Adm. Andrews is the Vice President of Asset Management for Coit Tower Realty, Inc., a real estate operating company in San Francisco. In this capacity, Rear Adm. Andrews is responsible for over-arching portfolio issues affecting the diversified portfolio of California and Utah office and residential properties as well as direction of the day-to-day activities of the portfolio’s largest office property. Prior to Coit Tower Realty, Rear Adm. Andrews worked for Calfox, Inc., the General Services Administration, The Yarmouth Group, Inc. and Price Waterhouse.
Rear Adm. Andrews is a Certified Public Accountant, though not currently in practice, and has received the real estate designations of Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) and Real Property Administrator (RPA).
In addition to his B.S. in Commerce (specialty in Accounting) from the University of Virginia, Rear Adm. Andrews received his MBA from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1987. He counts golfing, skiing, bicycling and SCUBA diving among his outdoor passions.
