Rear Admiral Thomas R. Cullison:

Rear Adm. Thomas R. Cullison reported as The Medical Officer of the Marine Corps on 21 September 2004.
A native of Plymouth, Ind., Rear Adm. Cullison graduated from Hanover College in 1968, and was commissioned a surface warfare Ensign the same year. Rear Adm. Cullison's first duty was as Damage Control Assistant, USS Charles R. Ware (DD 865) in 1969. In 1970, he reported to Harbor Clearance Unit One as Salvage Diving Officer, participating in riverine salvage operations in Vietnam. In 1972, he was assigned to Submarine Development Group One, as Saturation Diving Officer.
He received his doctor of medicine degree in 1979 from Indiana University School of Medicine, and served a surgical internship and orthopedic surgery residency at Naval Medical Center San Diego. Rear Adm. Cullison reported to Naval Hospital, Camp Pendleton in 1984, becoming Chief of Orthopedic Surgery in 1986. He has deployed as Leader of Surgical Team Seven and Commander Amphibious Task Force Surgeon.
He reported to Naval Medical Center, San Diego, in 1987 as Assistant Chairman of Orthopedic Surgery and Director, Sports Medicine Service. From 1992 to 1995 he served as the Surgeon General's Specialty Advisor for Orthopedic Surgery. He was named Director of Surgical Services at Naval Medical Center, San Diego, in 1994. He served as the Deputy Commander, Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth, from 1995-1998. Following this, he was assigned as Commanding Officer, Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune, from 1998 to 2001. He served as Fleet Surgeon, United States Pacific Fleet, from 2001 to 2003. His most recent assignment was as Command Surgeon, United States Pacific Command.
Rear Adm. Cullison's military awards include: the Legion of Merit with two gold stars, Bronze Star with Combat V; Meritorious Service Medal; Navy Commendation Medal; Combat Action Ribbon; and numerous unit citations.
Rear Adm. Cullison is an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences. He served on the Board of Councilors of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Board of Directors the Society of Military Orthopaedic Surgeons and is a Diplomate of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
